What’s with the shower curtains?
🛁🛁🛁🛁🛁
My husband and I took our first trip to Napa many years ago, and after a fantastic few days in wine country, we ended our trip with one night in San Francisco. We did Alcatraz, we saw the seals, we shopped and ate. That evening we returned to our hotel, the Marriott Fisherman’s Wharf. I jumped in the shower, complete with a white, plastic shower curtain. As I was washing my hair, I couldn’t help but notice the shower curtain tap, tap, tapping against my upper arm. I suddenly had the thought: How often do hotels change shower curtains? After every guest? I’ve seen the housekeeping carts full of towels, sheets, soaps and tissues, but I’ve never seen a pile of fresh shower curtains. I ripped open the curtain and finished my shower in the cold open air of the hotel bathroom. My disdain for the hotel shower curtain was born.
Why, in this day and age, would a shower curtain even be an option in a hotel? Every hotel shower should have glass doors. I subscribe to the belief that if I’m paying for the room, it better be nicer than my own home (or at least equal). I know many people disagree with that notion, they say, “oh I’m only sleeping in the room, who cares?” or “we will barely be in the room, so why pay more?” This blog is not for those people.
My husband and I have been branded “room snobs” by our friends, and we are proud of the moniker. I’m not spending my hard-earned money on anything less than luxury. Why would I pay to sleep in a mediocre bedroom? I have one of those at home, and it’s free!
Don’t mistake me, I don’t hate all shower curtains. In fact, there is a shower curtain in my daughters’ bathroom. However, I know how often it is cleaned and replaced and, most importantly, I know all the naked bodies that shower curtain is smacking.😊
I created this blog at the behest of my friends who really get a kick out of my opinions (complaints?) about what makes a luxury hotel stay. In addition, I saw a true need for moms, and women in general. With the struggles associated with travel nowadays, the carry-on has become the way to go, which means limited real estate for packing. Therefore, it is very helpful to know what the hotel offers. Can I leave my blow dryer at home? Or does the hotel have an ancient travel sized con-air? How are the toiletries? Is it worth it to pack travel sized shampoo and conditioner? Is there room for my stuff? Is there room for my kids’ stuff? So many “family friendly” hotels have pedestal sinks! Where are my two teenaged girls going to put all their crap?
These are the things that are important to me when I travel. If they are important to you, then this blog is for you. Enjoy my content with a grain of salt. I’m not trying to upset or offend anyone. This is all for entertainment only. I’m not an expert; I don’t have connections with any of these hotels and I don’t get paid for this. This blog is for FUN! My ultimate goal is to entertain and maybe help you decide if you should pack your blow dryer.
